NWVCIL Presents: Different Voices And Common Experiences Arts Exhibit.

Northern WV Center for Independent Living (NWCIL) Presents: Different Voices And Common Experiences Arts Exhibit held at the Monongalia Arts Center from August 5th thru August 27th, 2016

"Different Voices and Common Experiences" is an exhibit featuring artists who have been affected by mental health issues. DVCE supports positive mental health awareness, community wellness, and inclusivity. How to submit: Artists will be chosen on a first-come basis until the gallery space is full. You must submit photographs of your art pieces (limit 3 per artist) with your completed application. Call Paulette: 844-212-3464 or email plivengood@nwvcil.org to request an application or for more info. Deadline for submission: June 10th. There will be a free public reception on Friday, August 5th, 2016 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM. Participating artists and the community are encouraged to attend to enjoy visual and performance arts. Refreshments will be available.

Candidates Forum

The Fair Shake Network along with Statewide Independent Living Council, WV Developmental Disabilities Council, The Arc, WV Advocates, WVU Center for Excellence in Disabilities, Mountain State Centers for Independent Living are hosting a Candidates Forum on Thursday, April 28th at 6:00PM (facebook.com). The event will be held at the Labelle Theater in South Charleston, WV. We have invited all candidates in the state races for Governor, Secretary of State, Attorney General, and Justice of Supreme Court of Appeals.

The Disability Community is very interested to learn more about the views and goals of individuals running to serve our community with regard to disability issues. The information provided will be most useful to voters with disabilities, their families, advocates, and friends as they make their choices on Election Day.

This event is open to the public and everyone is encouraged to attend.

Primary Election Dates

WVA wants you to be aware of the following upcoming Primary Election Deadlines:

  • April 19, 2016 – Deadline to register to vote.
  • February 16, 2016 – May 4, 2016 ~ All eligible voters may apply to receive an absentee ballot by mail.
  • April 27, 2016 – May 7, 2016 ~ Early Voting is open during regular business hours at each county courthouse or courthouse annex. Early Voting is also available each Saturday from 9:00am to 5:00pm.
  • May 3, 2016 to May 10, 2016 – Eligible citizens, who are registered to vote, may request an emergency absentee ballot until noon on Election Day.
  • May 10, 2016 – Primary Election Day, Polls are open from 6:30am to 7:30pm.
