West Virginia Advocates, the federally mandated protection and advocacy system (P&A) in West Virginia for individuals with disabilities, is pleased to announce that beginning January 1, 2017, it will be doing business as Disability Rights of West Virginia (DRWV). 2017 will mark the 40th year of providing services to individuals with disabilities. DRWV is a private, non-profit agency dedicated to protecting and advocating for the legal rights of West Virginians with disabilities. DRWV serves individuals with developmental, intellectual, and physical disabilities, as well as traumatic brain injury and individuals with mental health diagnoses. DRWV’s Intake Department provides Information and Referral services to anyone who requests assistance. DRWV’s acceptance of direct advocacy and legal cases is determined by a variety of criteria including disability related eligibility criteria established by our funders, our current priorities and objectives, as well as available resources. West Virginia Advocates, Inc., West Virginia’s designated protection and advocacy system committed to promoting and protecting the human and legal rights of citizens with disabilities, is seeking a full-time Legal Director. The Legal Director provides leadership, vision, planning and supervision of the legal work of WVA. The Legal Director is responsible for ensuring high quality representation to clients and provides direct supervision to attorneys in the office. The Legal Director is a member of the management team and participates in setting priorities, budgeting, policy development, and other management activities. Qualifications: Degree from ABA accredited law school, member of the WV Bar Association, a licensed attorney in good standing in the State of WV and a minimum of six years legal experience. Position requires knowledge of Medicaid, employment, special education, public accommodations, housing, discrimination, and other disability related legal issues.
